Bill overview
This bill, the Gold Star Family Education Parity Act, aims to ensure that families with Gold Star children (the children of fallen service members) have access to educational benefits similar to those available to other veterans. It proposes to end the current Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance program (Chapter 35 of Title 38) on August 1, 2028. If a Gold Star family member is no longer eligible for Chapter 35 benefits, they would be eligible for Chapter 33 benefits, which are typically available to other veterans, with some adjustments to accommodate service credit.
