Bill overview
This bill, the Robert E. Lee Monument Removal Act, directs the Secretary of the Interior to remove the statue of Robert E. Lee from the Antietam National Battlefield. The statue, located on National Park Service property, will be destroyed by a private entity, and the resulting materials will be sold to offset the costs. The site where the monument stood will be restored to align with the battlefield’s interpretation and protection. The bill also requires the Secretary to submit a removal plan to the House Committee on Natural Resources within a year of enactment.
