Bill overview
This bill amends the Tribal Forest Protection Act of 2004 to expand its scope and effectiveness. It broadens the definition of ‘Indian forest land or rangeland’ to include land held by Alaska Native Corporations under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act, and removes the requirement that projects must occur on federal lands adjacent to tribal lands. Instead, projects can be undertaken on tribal lands if the federal land involved has special geographic, historical, or cultural significance to the tribe. The bill also updates reporting requirements and authorizes appropriations for the program through 2030.
