Bill overview
This bill expands the Mojave National Preserve in California to include the Castle Mountains National Monument, adding approximately 20,920 acres to the preserve’s boundaries. The land will be managed as part of the preserve, following existing laws and regulations. Specifically, the Bureau of Land Management will continue managing a mining area within the monument until conditions for cessation of mining are met, at which point the National Park Service will take over administration. The bill also addresses water resource availability and a transfer of administrative jurisdiction between the National Park Service and the Bureau of Land Management.
