Bill overview
This bill establishes the Chesapeake National Recreation Area as a unit of the National Park System in Maryland and Virginia, encompassing the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The Department of the Interior can acquire land for the area through various means, and must develop a management plan in consultation with the Chesapeake Executive Council. The bill also directs transportation planning to minimize traffic impacts, establishes an advisory board, and focuses on promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in access to the Bay’s resources. Finally, it adjusts the boundaries of Fort Monroe National Monument to align with the new recreation area.
