Bill overview
The Grandfamilies Act of 2023 aims to provide greater support for grandparents and other family members who are raising children, particularly those who are not the children’s legal guardians. It expands access to Social Security benefits for children living with relatives, revises TANF eligibility requirements to be more supportive of these caregivers, and encourages states to establish temporary guardianship laws. The bill also includes provisions to improve child support enforcement and promote collaboration between state and federal programs to assist families with caregiver relatives.
