Bill overview
This bill creates a new office within the Department of Agriculture, the Office of the Special Investigator for Competition Matters, to focus on enforcing the Packers and Stockyards Act. The Special Investigator will have the authority to investigate and prosecute violations of the act by meat and poultry companies, and will also serve as a liaison with other federal agencies like the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security. The office will maintain a staff of legal professionals and coordinate with existing USDA divisions.
