Bill overview
The Prison Staff Safety Enhancement Act aims to address the serious issue of sexual harassment and assault against correctional officers and other Bureau of Prisons employees. The bill directs the Department of Justice’s Inspector General to conduct a comprehensive review of these incidents, analyze existing punishments, and then develop national standards for prevention, reduction, and punishment. These standards will be created by the Attorney General within a year of receiving the Inspector General’s report.
