Bill overview
This bill, titled the CHANGE Act of 2023, aims to improve the detection of cognitive impairment in Medicare patients. Starting January 1, 2024, Medicare annual wellness visits and initial preventive physical exams must include the use of a cognitive impairment detection tool approved by the National Institute on Aging, along with documentation of the tool used and the results. This change is intended to facilitate earlier diagnosis and treatment for Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, benefiting both patients and their caregivers.
