The SPARC Act aims to increase the availability of specialty medical care in rural areas by offering student loan repayment programs. It authorizes the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to provide financial assistance to specialty medicine physicians and non-physician specialty health care providers who commit to working in rural communities with shortages of these professionals. Participants must agree to a 6-year service commitment, and HRSA will cover one-sixth of their loan payments, up to a maximum of $250,000.
