Bill overview
The Servicemembers and Veterans Empowerment and Support Act of 2023 aims to improve healthcare and benefits for veterans who have experienced military sexual trauma (MST). The bill expands the VA’s ability to recognize MST as a cause of mental health conditions, strengthens the process for claiming compensation related to MST, and ensures more accurate processing of these claims. It also addresses access to mental health care for MST survivors and requires a study to assess training and procedures for handling MST-related claims, as well as a review of the VA’s outreach efforts to veterans.
