Bill overview
The Combating Cartels on Social Media Act of 2023 requires the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to develop and implement a strategy to combat the use of social media and online platforms by transnational criminal organizations for recruiting individuals in the United States. This strategy will assess how these organizations are using these platforms, identify a point of contact for information sharing, and coordinate efforts with various government agencies and private companies. The goal is to proactively counter recruitment efforts and prevent individuals from being drawn into illicit activities near U.S. borders.
