Bill overview
The Safe Temperature Act of 2023 aims to ensure residents of public housing, supportive housing for seniors, and those receiving housing choice vouchers have a comfortable and safe living environment by establishing a temperature range requirement. This bill modifies existing housing laws to give the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) the authority to mandate temperature levels between 71 and 81 degrees Fahrenheit in these types of dwellings. The act provides funding mechanisms to support these temperature requirements. It seeks to address concerns about inadequate heating and cooling in federally assisted housing.
