Bill overview
The Firearm Safety Act of 2023 aims to improve the safety of firearms by allowing the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to establish safety standards for pistols, revolvers, and other firearms. Currently, firearms are excluded from the CPSC’s authority. This bill removes that exclusion, giving the CPSC the power to regulate firearm design and components to reduce risks of injury and death. The legislation seeks to modernize the regulatory framework surrounding firearms safety.
