Bill overview
This bill, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer Retirement Technical Corrections Act, aims to correct a historical inequity in retirement benefits for CBP officers. It clarifies that CBP officers who started work after July 6, 2008, and accepted an employment offer before that date, are entitled to a ‘proportional annuity’ instead of the standard retirement benefits. The Office of Personnel Management will retroactively adjust annuity calculations for these officers, and the Secretary of Homeland Security may waive mandatory retirement requirements. The GAO will review CBP’s hiring and policy practices related to these benefits.
