Bill overview
This bill, the Volunteer Driver Tax Appreciation Act of 2023, aims to improve the tax benefits for volunteers who drive for charitable organizations. Currently, drivers are only allowed to deduct 14 cents per mile for charitable transportation. This bill would increase that deduction to the standard business mileage rate of 65.5 cents per mile, as determined by the Secretary of the Treasury, for those transporting non-taxpayers or property for a qualifying charity. This change is intended to better reflect the actual costs associated with volunteer driving.
