Bill overview
The Time Off to Vote Act would require employers with 25 or more employees to provide employees with at least 2 consecutive hours of paid leave on Election Day to vote, return a mail-in ballot, or perform other voting-related activities. Employers can determine the specific time frame for this leave, but it cannot include lunch breaks. The law prohibits employers from interfering with an employee’s right to take this leave or retaliating against them for exercising that right, and establishes penalties for violations.
