Bill overview
The Preventing Antisemitic Harassment on Campus Act of 2024 aims to combat antisemitism as a form of discrimination in higher education. It amends Title VI of the Civil Rights Act to explicitly include antisemitism as a prohibited basis for discrimination and clarifies the definition of ‘indifference’ to harassment. The bill also strengthens enforcement by increasing penalties for institutions found to be in violation of Title VI and requires institutions receiving federal funds to notify students, faculty, and staff of any violations. Finally, it modifies the Higher Education Act to provide for monitoring of private lawsuits and reporting requirements.
