Bill overview
This bill, the STATUE Act, expands the federal law against damaging veterans’ memorials to include all memorials on public property. It specifically prohibits willfully injuring, destroying, or attempting to destroy such structures, plaques, statues, or monuments. The bill also introduces mandatory minimum prison sentences of five years and a fine of at least $1,000 for those convicted of these offenses, particularly if interstate commerce is involved or the memorial is owned by the federal government.
