Bill overview
The HOPE Act amends immigration law to allow certain veteran aliens to be paroled into the United States temporarily to receive healthcare from the Department of Veterans Affairs. This parole process would be overseen by the Department of Homeland Security and would be granted on a case-by-case basis. The bill specifically addresses veterans who have been ordered for removal or voluntarily departed the U.S. and excludes certain individuals with serious criminal convictions from receiving this parole.
