Bill overview
The SHOP Act aims to limit the power of district courts to issue broad injunctions, prevent judge shopping (attempting to influence judge assignments), and reform bankruptcy venue rules. Specifically, it restricts injunctions to the parties involved in a case or similarly situated individuals, prohibits attorneys from being admitted to practice in federal courts if they engage in judge shopping, and modifies bankruptcy venue rules to prioritize the location of a company’s principal place of business or assets. Finally, the bill seeks to standardize patent venue rules across the country.
