This bill, the Illegal Alien NICS Alert Act, would require the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) to automatically notify U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and relevant state and local law enforcement agencies when the system indicates an individual illegally present in the United States attempted to purchase a firearm. The goal is to improve information sharing and potentially aid in investigations related to firearm sales to individuals who are not legally authorized to own them. This would occur whenever NICS flags a prospective firearm transferee as being illegally or unlawfully in the U.S.
