Bill overview
This bill, the I-VETS Act, requires the Department of Homeland Security to track when immigrants applying for benefits or facing immigration enforcement were members of the U.S. Armed Forces. The DHS will record this military service in their records and ensure it’s reflected in immigration proceedings. Importantly, this information cannot be used to justify removing someone from the United States based on their military history. This aims to ensure accurate records and prevent military service from being unfairly considered in immigration decisions.
