Bill overview
The Enlist Act of 2023 allows certain non-U.S. nationals, including DACA recipients, those with temporary protected status, and individuals with pending immigrant visa applications, to enlist in the Armed Forces. To be eligible, these individuals must meet security and suitability requirements, maintain physical presence in the U.S. for five years, and demonstrate honorable service. The bill also provides a mechanism for DHS to temporarily halt removal proceedings for enlisted aliens who served honorably or were separated from service under honorable conditions, and adjusts the naturalization process for these individuals.
