Bill overview
This bill, the Alan T. Shao II Fentanyl Public Health Emergency and Overdose Prevention Act, suspends the entry of certain individuals – those attempting to unlawfully enter the U.S. from Canada or Mexico without proper travel documents and being held for immigration processing – in response to the ongoing fentanyl crisis. The goal is to prevent the introduction of this highly potent opioid drug into the country. Individuals who attempt to enter under these circumstances will be returned to their country of origin.
