Overview
The Fairness in Fentanyl Sentencing Act of 2023 aims to reduce harsh sentencing for drug offenses involving fentanyl and its analogues. It lowers the quantity thresholds that trigger mandatory minimum prison sentences for both low- and high-level offenders. The bill also directs the U.S. Postal Service to increase the availability of chemical screening devices and dedicate personnel to intercepting illegally imported fentanyl and other narcotics. Finally, it directs the Sentencing Commission to review and amend sentencing guidelines to align with these changes.
