Bill overview
This resolution honors the Freedom House Ambulance Service, a pioneering emergency medical service founded in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1966. The service, staffed entirely by Black paramedics, provided crucial prehospital care in the Hill District, a historically underserved area, and revolutionized emergency medical techniques. It was the first in the United States to train paramedics with advanced medical skills and established standards that influenced national and international prehospital care practices. Sadly, the service was ultimately discontinued due to political pressures.
