Overview
This bill eliminates the automatic presumption of pretrial release for defendants charged with contempt of a domestic violence restraining order in New Jersey. Currently, under state law, the presumption of release applies to many criminal charges, but this bill specifically excludes contempt of domestic violence restraining orders from this presumption. It also requires defendants already on pretrial release who violate a restraining order to demonstrate why their release should not be revoked.
