Overview
This bill allows businesses in New Jersey to round cash transactions to the nearest tenth or five-hundredth of a dollar, depending on the price ending. It aims to help businesses adjust to the potential phasing out of pennies. The bill also establishes penalties for businesses that fail to comply with the rounding rules and clarifies that voluntary rounding programs for donations are permitted. It will take effect 30 days after it is enacted.
