Overview
This bill makes several changes to New Jersey’s civil service laws. It allows seasonal appointments to extend up to nine months, provided the appointing authority submits a plan for approval. The bill also permits temporary layoffs for economic or efficiency reasons, subject to certain conditions and exceptions for public safety. Finally, it allows counties and municipalities to rescind their adoption of the state’s civil service system through a voter referendum.
