Overview
This bill expands New Jersey’s DNA collection policy to include a wider range of crimes. It requires that deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) samples be collected from individuals convicted of specific offenses, including aggravated sexual assault, murder, arson, carjacking, and human trafficking. The bill also extends these requirements to juvenile offenders and those found not guilty by reason of insanity. Collection will occur upon arrest, during confinement, or as a condition of sentencing, with provisions for individuals previously convicted before certain effective dates.
