Overview
This bill changes the rules for hiring law enforcement officers in New Jersey. Currently, appointing authorities must choose from the top three most qualified candidates. This bill expands that to allow them to consider the top five candidates for law enforcement positions, while maintaining the existing ‘rule of three’ for most Civil Service appointments. It also ensures veterans’ preference is considered in the selection process.
