Overview
This bill requires New Jersey school districts to allow students to take excused absences due to illness. Schools must include illness as a reason for an excused absence in their attendance policies. Parents or guardians will need to provide documentation, such as a doctor's note, to the school when their child returns after an excused absence for illness. The Commissioner of Education, working with the Commissioner of Health, will create guidelines for schools regarding excused absences for illness and the required documentation.
