Overview
This bill establishes protections against deed theft in New Jersey. It allows government agencies to temporarily halt legal proceedings related to property ownership if a good faith investigation into potential theft or fraud is underway. The bill also creates presumptions of fraud in cases of criminal convictions related to deed theft and provides a mechanism for the Attorney General to seek to void instruments related to fraudulent property transactions. Finally, it updates existing procedures for filing notices of pendency to provide greater protection against fraudulent transfers.
