Overview
This bill allows New Jersey school districts to award an alternate high school diploma to students with the most significant cognitive disabilities who participate in the state’s Alternative Assessment Program. These students must meet specific graduation requirements, including completing courses in language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, arts, world languages, 21st-century life and careers, financial literacy, technological literacy, and health/safety/physical education. The diploma will be standards-based and aligned with a regular high school diploma, and it won’t terminate a student’s right to a free appropriate public education under their IEP.
