This bill allows certain West Virginia municipalities that currently employ police or firefighters enrolled in the Emergency Medical Services Retirement System to choose to join the Municipal Police Officers and Firefighters Retirement System. Municipalities can opt to include only those officers and firefighters hired after July 1, 2015, and must notify the Consolidated Public Retirement Board of their decision. Assets and service credits from the Emergency Medical Services Retirement System would be transferred to the new system, and the Emergency Medical Services Retirement System would be relieved of future liability for those transferred employees.
