Bill overview
This bill allows the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to approve apprenticeship programs that operate across multiple states. Currently, states are responsible for approving these programs for veterans’ educational assistance. The bill changes this by giving the VA the authority to act as a ‘State approving agency’ for multi-state apprenticeship programs, particularly those in the trucking industry. This aims to make it easier for veterans to access training and employment opportunities in the trucking sector.
Key provisions
- The VA can approve multi-state apprenticeship programs.
- This expands the role of the VA beyond just approving programs within a single state.
- The bill specifically targets apprenticeship programs within the trucking industry.
- It amends existing law to grant the VA this authority.
- The Secretary of Veterans Affairs will be responsible for determining program eligibility.
