Bill overview
This bill allows the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to approve apprenticeship programs for veterans seeking careers in the trucking industry, even if those programs operate across multiple states. Currently, states are responsible for approving these types of programs for VA educational assistance. The bill changes this by giving the VA the authority to act as a ‘State approving agency’ for multi-state apprenticeship programs. This aims to make it easier for veterans to access training and employment opportunities in the trucking sector.
Key provisions
- Authorizes the VA to approve multi-state apprenticeship programs.
- Designates the VA as a ‘State approving agency’ for these programs.
- Modifies existing law to allow the VA to act in this role.
- Specifically targets apprenticeship programs in the trucking industry.

Notable changes

- Allows for apprenticeship programs that span multiple states to qualify for VA educational assistance.
