Bill overview
This bill, the LIVE Beneficiaries Act, requires state Medicaid programs to regularly check the Social Security Administration’s Death Master File to identify and remove deceased individuals from their rolls. Starting in 2027, states must review the file at least quarterly to ensure that no deceased beneficiaries remain enrolled in Medicaid. If a deceased individual is identified, their coverage will be terminated, and payments will cease, except for services already provided. The bill also includes a process for states to reinstate coverage if a mistake was made in identifying someone as deceased.
