Bill overview
The Secure Grid Act amends the Energy Policy and Conservation Act to require states to incorporate the physical and cybersecurity security of local electricity distribution systems into their state energy security plans. This legislation expands the definition of a ‘local distribution system’ to include lower-voltage infrastructure and mandates that states assess and mitigate risks related to physical attacks, weather events, supply chain vulnerabilities, and cybersecurity threats. It also streamlines the reporting process for states, removing a requirement for federal approval of submissions.
