Bill overview
This bill, the Merger Process Review Act, requires federal banking regulators – including the Federal Reserve, the Comptroller of the Currency, the FDIC, and the NCUA – to periodically review how they handle applications for mergers involving banks and credit unions. Every three years, each agency’s Inspector General will assess the speed and efficiency of these reviews, identify any delays, and recommend improvements. The agencies must then respond to these recommendations with a plan for implementation, ensuring a more streamlined merger process.
