Bill overview
The Nuclear REFUEL Act of 2025 modifies the Atomic Energy Act of 1954 to clarify the definition of a ‘production facility’ related to nuclear fuel. Specifically, it excludes equipment or devices designed to process spent nuclear fuel without separating plutonium from other radioactive elements. This change aims to streamline the licensing process for facilities involved in spent fuel recycling that do not focus on plutonium recovery. The bill seeks to promote more efficient and environmentally sound management of nuclear waste.
