Bill overview
This joint resolution proposes an amendment to the U.S. Constitution aimed at clarifying and strengthening the definition of U.S. citizenship. Specifically, it restricts the application of the 14th Amendment’s citizenship provisions to individuals born in the United States only if at least one of their parents meets specific criteria – being a U.S. citizen, a lawful permanent resident, or an active-duty member of the military with legal status. The amendment seeks to limit the scope of birthright citizenship and ensure that citizenship is tied to established legal connections to the United States.
