Cookie Policy
Effective date: March 16, 2026
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. They allow websites to remember information between page loads and visits. Civik uses cookies sparingly and only for functional purposes.
Cookies we use
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| next-auth.session-token | Maintains your authenticated session so you remain signed in across pages. | Session / 30 days |
| next-auth.csrf-token | Protects against cross-site request forgery attacks on form submissions. | Session |
| civik-theme | Stores your preferred appearance setting (dark or light mode) to prevent flash of wrong theme on page load. | 1 year |
What we do not use
Civik does not use third-party tracking cookies, advertising or retargeting cookies, analytics cookies from third-party services, or social media tracking pixels.
A civic engagement platform should not surveil its users. Your browsing behavior on Civik is not tracked by external parties.
Managing cookies
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. However, if you disable the authentication cookie, you will not be able to remain signed in to Civik.
The theme preference cookie is optional. If deleted, the platform will default to the dark theme until you set a preference again.
Changes to this policy
If we introduce new cookies, we will update this policy and note the change. Material changes will be communicated through the platform.
